While the reason the chimney base to the left of the existing chimney base was demolished but not the base to the right can never been known for sure, it is possible that it was removed in order to salvage bricks to use elsewhere. Evidence of this can be seen in the northeastern bedchamber, where whitewashed bricks are found in the rebuilt ca. 1812 chimney stack on the second floor.
