How much information could something as simple as a floorboard give the Restoration Team?  As it turns out they can reveal quite a lot, including evidence for a long-lost chimney.  Because floorboards normally run in only one direction in a room, when a patch or break is found in a room's floorboards it almost always indicates that the room was renovated.  While these patches are usually created when walls are moved, they can also point to other changes.  In the case of the Old Library, the angle of the patch told the Restoration Team that the ca. 1764 chimney had been demolished and the fireplace had been moved.
