On closer inspection it was discovered that the fragment appeared to have a yellowish finish on it and that it had been covered by a coat of ca. 1844 plaster.  The fact that it was found below the ca. 1844 plaster was critical and it revealed that the yellowish coated plaster fragment possibly dated it to the Madison-era.
