More evidence revealing how these boards were installed was found when the team investigated the patch of exposed bricks.  Fourteen wooden nailers were found inserted into the brick joints and they aligned in four evenly spaced rows.  These nailers matched other ca. 1812 nailers found in Montpelier and so the Team determined that they dated to the kitchen’s initial construction period.  These nailers would eventually help the Restoration Team determine the width of the boards that were installed behind the shelves.
