In the end the Restoration Team, in conjunction with the Restoration Advisory Board, decided to use the railing design found in the ca. 1830 drawing.  It was determined that the Dinsmore drawing was potentially a work-in-progress drawing and so the railings it depicted were very likely changed in the course of the ca. 1812 renovations.  Tellingly, other details in the Dinsmore drawing, such as the arches over the wing windows and the large cellar level windows, were also not incorporated into the final design for the new wings.  These details further indicated that the Dinsmore sketch was a concept drawing and not a literal depiction of what the Mansion looked like after the ca. 1812 renovations and additions.
