While there was enough evidence to accurately restore the hatch, there was very little evidence for the ladder stair that would have been used to access the hatch.  While a narrow, steep, stair case (often a winding stair) was a common way to access a garret, there was clearly not enough room in the Upper North Passage Closet to hold a normal stair.
