After the trim was reinstalled, it was sanded, primed and repainted with a traditional linseed-oil paint that was color matched to the  ca. 1812 interior trim paint.  At the end of the process the Restoration team was able to restore the Madison’s arched doorways back to their exact ca. 1812 appearance.  While the technical and analytical aspects of the investiation were impressive, in the end none of it would have been possible without the duPonts recognizing the quality of the Madison-era trim and reusing it during their renovations.  Without their appreciation of the workmanship of the historic woodwork, the restoration as a whole would not have been nearly as successful.
