Evidence for the ca. 1764 earthen flooring was found in a remote corner of the cellar. The small section of the surviving 18-century floor was found by the archaeologists under a ca. 1901 poured concrete floor.  What the careful excavations revealed were approximately five thin layers of compacted earth.
