After the framing investigation, the Restoration Team started to investigate the possibility that the closet had shelves.  Shelves were a very common feature of closets in the 18th century because they allowed the space to be used more efficiently than the trunks, chests, and presses that were also commonly used for storage in the 18th- and early-19th centuries.
