However, in a few cases, such as the North Passage, the chance discovery of a surviving early plaster fragment made the process much simpler.  After the masons removed much of the non-Madison plaster on the south wall of the North Passage, a small fragment of plaster was found clinging to the wall that did not match the plaster that had just been removed.
