Fortunately, after looking through a collection of photos of Montpelier's interior taken just after Marion duPont Scott died in 1984, a photograph of the chimneypiece was found that included the missing ornaments.  After scanning and enlarging the photo, it was possible to see exactly what the missing composition ornaments looked like.
