Similar to the North Passage, the first step in distempering the walls was to prime the plaster with a clear coat of hide glue.  After the primer had dried, a painter next brushed on several coats of the hide glue-based distemper paint which was pigmented with traditional ochre pigments to match the historic paint found on the corner bead.  Interestingly, this was not the only room where Dr. Buck found the dark yellow distemper paint on a corner bead.  An identical dark yellow distemper paint was also found on a Madison-era corner bead in the Large Bedroom and so the walls of the Large Bedroom were also painted with the same distemper.
