The first important shingle fragment, or really set of fragments, that were collected had been originally installed in the valleys of the Madison-era roof. Because the sides of these shingles were cut into angled, pie-like shapes, the Restoration Team knew that the valley shingles were “swept” or laid in a gentle curve as they rounded the hip.
