As a result of the careful inventory made of all of the shingle fragments found during the Restoration, the Restoration Team was able to significantly improve the accuracy of the restored roof.  If the fragments had been simply thrown out and not analyzed, then the reconstructed roof would not have been accurate.  By carefully studying and curating the shingle fragments as they were found, the Restoration Team was able to restore a valuable, and very visible, element to the Montpelier Mansion.
