The second important fragment that was found was a small, teardrop-shaped shingle. While the size of the shingle was not very impressive, it did provide a valuable clue for how the shingles were terminated at the hips. Normally, a hip would simply be covered by overlapping the shingles as they met at the hip. However, a second, and less common, variation was to use a teardrop-shaped shingle to cap the hip as it descends from the peak down to the eaves.
