However, the rediscovered rail height provided only a small part of the design for the stair's recreated architectural trim.  With almost everything else missing, how could the Restoration Team reconstruct what amounted to almost all of the architectural trim for the stairs?  The answer would come from looking at the newel post fragment and comparing it to other surviving stairs from the same period in Virginia.
