Using the outline and existing period cornices as a guide architects then developed a design for the reconstructed cornice.  The new moldings for the reconstructed cornice were carefully milled out of reclaimed heart pine lumber.  Heart pine was specified because it matched the material that Madison would have used and is a strong, rot-resistant wood appropriate for exterior use.
