When the restoration’s carpenters removed the sidelights to investigate, they were astounded to discover that the sidelights were hung with brass pulleys and sash cords attached to lead weights just like the other ca. 1812 windows.  After sharing the discovery with the rest of the Restoration Team and the Restoration Advisory Committee it was found that no one had ever seen movable sidelights before.  While a search for other pocketing sidelights continues, the Montpelier examples are the only ones found so far.
