However, the careful observer will notice one major difference.  The reproduction chimneypiece in the North Wing Room does not have the elaborate composition ornaments found on the Large Bedroom's mantel.  After reviewing the evidence, the Restoration Advisory Committee felt that it would not be appropriate to install composition ornaments because how the room was used during the Madison era is not yet known.  Because the design of the composition ornaments used on chimneypieces were almost always tied to the function of the room (i.e. grapes or wheat would typically be found in a dining room while busts of philosophers or playwrights would be more appropriate for a library), it would be impossible to determine what ornaments should be placed on the recreated mantel.  However, research on the room's use continues and perhaps when the use of the room has finally been determined composition ornaments can be installed on the chimneypiece.
