Ultimately the missing backband, along with surviving evidence for the slope of the ca. 1764 stair revealed that a small landing had been built at the bottom of the stair.  The evidence of the landing discovered on the reused doorframe would also turn out to be incredibly important and without it the Restoration Team may not have been able to accurately restore the ca. 1764 South Stair.
