To gather more evidence for the fireplace's surround the Restoration Team investigated the surviving ca. 1797 brickwork around the fireplace to see if there were any clues that had survived that proved stone had been used to face the surround.  After the investigation was completed the Restoration Team discovered that a section of ca. 1880s brickwork filled a void created by the removal of the facing from around the fireplace.  After the 1880s brick fill was removed, a wrought iron cramp was discovered embedded in the ca. 1797 brickwork.
