To restore the fireplace’s surround, mason Ray Canetti ordered new pieces of sandstone from a quarry in England that neighbored the Whitehaven quarry.  The new stone would have come from the Whitehaven quarry but it had unfortunately been abandoned many years before the Restoration started.  However, because the new stone for the fireplace was quarried close to the site of the original stone, it proved to be a close match for the original in both texture and color.
