Because the Restoration Team knew that these studs had been used in the framing of President Madison's Upper North Passage Closet, it was decided to reuse them when the Closet was reconstructed.  Specifically, the studs with the shelf ghosts were installed on the Closet's north wall where they aligned with the shelf pockets found in the brick.


The Upper North Passage closet after the framing and lathing had been reconstructed.  The stair accessing the garret in the photo is temporary and plaster has yet to be applied to the ceiling.
