Like any nail or screw, when removed, a curtain pin leaves physical evidence on the window.  Small dimples or even circular impressions in the wood can usually be seen and reveal the former locations of curtain pins.  However, while it is often easy to see curtain pin evidence under raking light, it’s nearly impossible to know exactly when the pins were installed just by looking at the holes and impressions.
