After the reconstruction of the Chinese railings Montpelier is once again clearly linked to other buildings in the Jeffersonian architectural tradition.  By strengthening Montpelier's connection to Thomas Jefferson's architectural work, the railings can now be used as a physical reminder of the historically important lifelong friendship and political partnership that developed between Presidents Jefferson and Madison.
