Reconstructing the ca. 1812 Shutters
One of the last pieces needed for the shutter reconstruction project was the hardware used to hold the shutters open. To keep the shutters open, houses in the 18th and 19th centuries traditionally used “shutter dogs” that flanked the window and were mounted directly onto the sides of the building.
