After the Investigation Team removed the first thin layer of ca. 1880 finish coat plaster they found raking paint lines on the Madison-era plaster that survived intact below the ca. 1880 plaster.  When recorded in a measured drawing, these raking lines were found to roughly correlate with Monticello's pediment.  But was there further evidence to be found under the remaining layers of plaster that would help to prove the lines on the surface of the plaster actually related to a Madison-era architectural feature?
