When the Monticello pediment was inspected it was also discovered that it featured an egg-and-dart molding made from composition ornament that was very similar to one found on the cornice in the Drawing Room. Additionally, the cornice of Monticello’s parlor also featured an egg-and-dart detail that matched the one found on its pediment. Because the pediment and cornice at Monticello had matching egg-and-dart moldings, as was appropriate for a room based on the ionic order, it was determined that the Montpelier pediment should also include an egg-and-dart detail made from composition.
