To reconstruct the pediment the Restoration's architects (led by John Mesick) turned again to the Monticello example.  Although the paint lines found on the Montpelier plaster above the doorway were used to determine the size of the ca. 1812 pediment, the Monticello example was consulted for many of the reconstructed details and molding profiles.
