To recreate the egg-and-dart composition molding, architectural woodcarver Frederick Wilbur carved a sample of the molding based on the ca. 1812 egg-and-dart found on the Drawing Room’s cornice. This sample was then sent to Gold Leaf Studio in Washington, DC where a mold was created from the wooden original. This mold was then used to produce the final composition ornaments.
